In Science, we have been looking at floating and sinking. We did 'hands on' experiments that were a lot of fun. Like scientists, we predicted what we thought would happen before conducting the experiments.
We found out that the size of an objects didn't decide wheter that object would float or sink. A ping pong ball and a golf ball are the same size, but one floated and one sank. It was the weight and density of the object taht determined whether it floated or sank.
We tried floating an egg in tap water, but it sank. When we tried the same experiment with salty water the egg floated. We found that egg white sank when it was a liquid, but floated once we had beaten the egg white.

Bridges
The Fantail Reading Group read a book called The Impossible Bridge. They learnt that there are many different types of bridges, such as beam, arch and suspension bridges. They use classroom materials to make bridges and then they photographed them.
Here are some of their efforts.

Mufti Day
On Friday 4 March Everglade School had a mufti day to collect donations for the Canterbury relief effort. Lots of children dressed in Canterbury colours. A generous amount was raised. Well done Everglade.
Our thoughts and Best Wishes go out to the people of Canterbury.
